Flats and Sharps (UK) + The Frank Burkitt Band (Scot/NZ)

Flats and Sharps (UK)
Flats and Sharps are a high-energy contemporary Bluegrass band, from Penzance, Cornwall, in the South West of England, known for their own highly original songs as well as their blistering renditions of Bluegrass classics.
These five incredible young musicians, Kirk Bowman (banjo), Mikey Ponsford (mandolin), Josh Warner (guitar), Danny Hart (fiddle) and Liam Fitzharris (double bass), honed their skills in hundreds of live performances over the past six years, charming and wowing audiences along the way. They’ve come a long way, from their humble beginning busking in Penzance as 17 year-olds, to performing at the Proms in Hyde Park, London, and at scores of festivals throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe.
More recently, in April 2017 on their first Australian tour, they delighted audiences at the National Folk Festival, Canberra and Fairbridge Music Festival, WA, and have since been invited to the home of Bluegrass, the USA, to represent the UK in the International Bluegrass Music Association’s “World of Bluegrass” in September 2017.
“Flats and Sharps performances at Fairbridge Festival were nothing short of sensational. The standard of musicianship, rapport with audience and high entertainment value gathered more and more momentum as they dug into the event. Their final performance to over 1000 people on the final gig was one of the festival’s most significant events in recent years. I wouldn’t hesitate to book this band again in the future.” – Rod Vervest (Fairbridge Festival Artistic Director)

The Frank Burkitt Band: Frank is a story teller, songwriter, singer and guitarist. In that order. His rambling anecdotes aim to give the audience more of a connection with his songs. After years performing solo, he formed his incredible backing band when he relocated to Wellington from Edinburgh. The band have made incredible progress in the last three years, releasing their debut album Fools & Kings in 2015, which reached No.12 in the Official NZ Music Charts. They have embarked on several national tours and have played several festivals across NZ. Inspired by artists such as Pokey Lafarge, Van Morrison, Billy Joel and The Wood Brothers, they play high energy, original music written by Burkitt and arranged by the band. They are launching their second album, Raconteur, on this tour.
