SLACKO are a new and exciting power-Aussie rock band. With their roots firmly in the pub rock scene of Sydney’s northern beaches, the band punches out classic guitar-driven originals, mixing pub rock with surf rock, whilst retaining a strong melodic influence.
Having just released their first album, ‘Wasting Time’, the band is hitting the live scene to showcase their catchy songs. With an interesting blend of distortion, power chords, vocal harmonies and brooding lyrics, ‘Wasting Time’ weaves in and out of the band’s two dominant personas: honest, simple, ball-busting Aussie-rock larakins, and; dark, thoughtful, innovative singer-songwriters. They blend well together and it makes for a cool, refreshing sound. One that harks back to Aussie-rock heroes AC-DC, Australian Crawl and the Sunny Boys but with a contemporary Brit-pop twist, that’s more akin to the melodic moodiness of The Smiths.
SLACKO put on a great show, particularly with their enigmatic front man, but it’s the hookiness of their guitar riffs and crooning vocal melodies that really makes them a show worth hearing. If you’re not jumping around the dance floor or humming their songs by the end, you may need to get your ears tested! This is a new Aussie sound not to be missed!
